Jasper got his first shots...ouch.
I know I have been remiss---not posting so much lately. I have been busy with life as one can expect with a little one (added to the fact that my stitches from the emergency c section are still open in the middle and I am still having daily home health nurse visits...*sigh*). I will try to do a bunch of short posts to catch up.
Yesterday, our little guy got his 2 month shots- 3 of them- plus an oral vaccination too. I decided to bring along a camera and take pictures to commemorate.
Here he is in the car on the way to the doc's so sweet and unaware of the needles in his near future!
The gorgeous green throw was made for Jasper especially by Winnie, my pal Lauren's mom. It is crocheted of super soft organic yarn and feels like heaven. I couldn't believe it when she gifted us with this and in the exact shade of mossy green I told her I liked.
While I am mentioning handmade gifts Jasper has received, I cannot leave out the adorable rag flannel quilt my dear pal Darcy made. Its so soft and has his name embroidered in the upper corner. It is perfect for when he starts lying on his stomach and playing on the floor.
Here is a link to her blog post on making it along with photos:

Back to our car ride to the doc's...more pictures:
Once there, he was stripped down to his skivvies so that he could be weighed.
I was anxious and hoping the doc would find his gain sufficient as I did not ever want to give him formula. He was so teeny at birth for being full term (6.6) and she had told me to feed him as much as he wanted to eat the last time he was seen by her.
Little silly monkey...he makes the best faces.
Check out his weight on the scale...up from 7.3 just 3 1/2 weeks ago.
The doc was very pleased with his gain and especially with me exclusively breast feeding. Yay!
He was very playful as we waited for his injections to arrive.
Here he is just after the oral vax for rotovirus. The nurse said it tastes sweet and sour and some babies spit it out. Not our little guy...he has a taste for lots of flavors already I am guessing. Tough stuff.
Then came the injections. The nurse did them quickly which was a blessing.
Poor little guy he cried such a sad mournful wail. I almost cried too
but had to be calm to quiet him down. I fed him right after which
helped him to relax.
Matt took off work to go along in case he was hysterical (he wasn't too
bad) and needed someone in the backseat on the way home. He ended up
passing out hard and sleeping a whole bunch.
These are post- vax taken in the car.
Awww. Shell-shock.
Hopefully, the shots at 4 months will be easier. Its just so hard to see a teeny baby get needles in their legs.

What a sweet little man. Shots don't get easier - for you or for him...at least in my experience. For Ben, they got worse. I've had to drag him out from under a chair before. It's just not fun. Talk to your doctor. I've read that some people nurse while shots are being given. I didn't but you may want to try that...

I nursed right after. We decided (the nurse and I) that she can do the shots back-to-back more quickly if he isn't nursing. She said in her experience once she gives the first shot, babies aren't eating anyway until its all over.
I may decide to try to nurse him next time during to see if he is okay with that. He seemed fine within a minute or so once she was done and he was eating. I liked that she was super quick. Aside from sleepiness and a touch of cranky which Tylenol helped, he did a-ok. I was proud of him.
That is kinda funny about Ben under the chair- although I am sure it wasn't funny at the time:( Poor guy.

ps- Also, I have heard that some study showed it could be upsetting to the baby to be breast feeding while getting shots as they may associate eating with pain and/or with you being responsible for the pain. I prefer to be the one to soothe him afterwards I think rather than to have him think I am maybe causing it. Wah.

I hated the shots too though Astrid did pretty well. One time she didn't even flinch and she liked the rotovirus one too. She hasn't gotten any since she was 6 months? I've been delaying some now and picking here and there and I don't think my dr. is too pleased. Oh well. Did Jasper get the flu shot?

Babies under 6 months don't get flu shots. Jasper does get the benefits of my flu shot through breast milk though.
