Yoo hoo Battlestar is coming back April 4th!

Patience, “Battlestar Galactica” fans. It’s not too long until the fourth season of the Sci Fi show begins April 4.

Battlestarwomen And if you’re really dying, ten stars of SCI FI Channel's original series Battlestar Galactica will make an appearance on CBS' Late Show With David Letterman to present the Top 10 List on March 19.

They include Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer, Grace Park, Michael Hogan, Aaron Douglas and Lucy Lawless. The show airs at 11:35 p.m. ET/PT.

The fourth season of Battlestar Galactica kicks off on March 28 at 10 p.m. ET/PT with two back-to-back half-hour specials, with the first new episode premiering the following week, April 4, 10 p.m.

I garnered some tidbits about the new season from Ron Moore, the executive producer of “Battlestar Galactica” in an interview last week. I’ll post a full transcript of our hourlong talk in early April, but until then, here are few nuggets of news:

  • Moore is directing Episode 12 of the fourth and final season; his first-ever directing gig begins March 25. Because Episode 11 had been filmed before the writers' strike began last fall, Moore’s episode is the first episode that the “Battlestar” staff will shoot when the show resumes production in Vancouver. As it happened, the post-strike shooting schedule “worked out for the best,” Moore said. “I’m up here prepping the episode and no one has anything to do but help me. I’m spending a lot of time with the director of photography walking through the sets and talking about things. If we were in the normal production mode, he wouldn’t have the luxury of spending so much time with me.”
  • I asked Moore about the rumor that Joss Whedon had been tentatively lined up to direct one of the final episodes of “Battlestar.” Moore confirmed that “Buffy” creator Whedon, a big fan of “Battlestar,” very much wanted to direct a “Battlestar” episode, but it looks as though he probably will not be able to do so, thanks to his commitment to a new Fox series, “Dollhouse.” “He really wanted to do it, but I’m dubious that it will work out,” Moore said.
  • Filmmaker John Dahl, who had been lined up to helm an episode before the strike, is still directing an episode of “Battlestar”: He’ll work on Episode 13.
  • Fan favorite Romo Lampkin, a wily lawyer played by Mark Sheppard, will be back for one episode before the first 10 episodes of Season 4 finish airing in June. Lampkin should be back once more before the series wraps up for good, Moore said.
  • Moore has no idea when the final 10 episodes of the 20-episode fourth season will be shown. The show’s cast and crew will be shooting episodes until June, and it’ll take until at least fall to finish post-production on the last batch of “Battlestar” outings.
  • There is renewed interested from Sci Fi in the proposed spinoff series “Caprica,” but Moore has no idea when or even if that pilot will be greenlit.
  • By the way, before the strike, he and fellow “Battlestar” writer Jane Espenson had been working on “Warehouse 13,” a series in development at Sci Fi, but both have exited the project.
  • Along with several other film and TV projects, Moore and fellow “Battlestar” writer Michael Taylor have a sci-fi flavored pilot in development at NBC.

  • Finally, Moore, who worked as a writer for many years on “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” recently wangled a visit to the Los Angeles set of the new “Star Trek” film, which is being directed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Damon Lindelof (both of whom are also executive producers of “Lost”).

Get your tivo ready! Its coming.

Battlestar Galactica's much anticipated 4th season that is.

Here is the skinny on BSG: Razor- it premieres on Saturday November 24th & will begin having "flashback" clips air during Flash Gordon this Friday October 5th.

If you aren't into actually watching Flash Gordon like the rest of us and want to skip to the BSG: Razor bits, dvr it. Yep, tivo is quite handy.

Oooh its the BSG:Razor trailer + two exclusive preview clips:

ABOUT BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: RAZOR

The Two-Hour Event

The special two-hour episode "Razor", which will serve as a backdrop for the events of season four of Battlestar Galactica, tells the story of Lee Adama's first mission as the commander of the Battlestar Pegasus — and the harrowing tale of that ship's desperate fight for survival in the immediate aftermath of the Cylon's genocidal siege of the Twelve Colonies.

Lee Adama's new XO, Major Kendra Shaw, is plagued by memories of her service and sacrifices under Admiral Helena Cain, who was able to save her ship during the Cylon attack — but only by making Shaw and her fellow officers rationalize suicidal battle tactics and brutal war crimes against their own people.

In the crucible of war, Shaw must let her hesitation and doubts burn away, until all that remains of her is the honed edge of a living human weapon — what Colonial veterans call "a razor." But an edge so fine cuts in more than one direction. It can cleave an enemy to pieces … or it can carve away a person's soul.

The Razor Flashbacks

From October 5 through November 16, SCI FI whets Battlestar fans' appetites every Friday night with Razor Flashbacks during all-new episodes of Flash Gordon. All the flashback clips will be available on SCIFI.COM immediately after broadcast.

Written by Michael Taylor and directed by Wayne Rose and Felix Alcala, these intense, roughly two-minute segments tell the story of young William "Husker" Adama's rookie Viper mission during the first Cylon war. In addition to fighting for his very survival against relentless Cylon centurions, Adama makes a terrifying discovery that will come back 40 years later to threaten him, the crew of the Pegasus and the survival of the human race.

Holy frak aka Girls Rule! part II

Just watched this delicious 2 minute video the fine folks at Comic-Con put out to celebrate the ladies of BSG.
Its pretty funny and oh yes...did I mention there is footage from the upcoming Razor movie thrown in for good measure?

For frak's sake!

Anyone who knows me knows of my deep and abiding love for the stellar tv show Battlestar Galactica which is on hiatus right now but will return in November for its final season, the 4th.

Bsg

I was lucky enough to have attended about a week ago an all-access event for BSG at the Hollywood Cinerama Dome with the producers and cast members in attendance for a special screening and a Q&A session.
They showed up a trailer for the season 4 lead-in called Razor which looks amazing.
Below is a fun video feed clip of the first 5 minutes of the Q&A.

If you have never watched this show, you are missing out on the best thing on television. Strong characters, strong writing, shot expensively on film with movie quality fx. Some people have an innate bias against anything set on a space ship or in the future but believe me, this show captures gritty reality and because it is fictional and set in the future, they are able to get away with addressing our current political world climate we live in and not be overly censored.

Manycopies

There are no other women characters on tv like the ones shown on BSG. They are leaders, presidents, viper pilots, shot-callers and it makes me happy to see these women finally portrayed on-screen as the norm and not just a token one as a happenstance.

The producers shared that the look of the world of BSG was strongly influenced by Ridley Scott's Bladerunner & Black Hawk Down. There is no other show like this on the air and I will be very sad when the 4th season wraps up. They chose to have the series end and wanted to tell a complete story from beginning to end. I just wish the story could be longer and will placate myself by rewatching my dvd sets.
